Special Storytelling Series to begin in June

With the idea of bringing members of our local community together, The Joseph Initiative is holding a series of storytelling events each month at Lenoir Rhyne University. The first event is scheduled for Thursday, June 21st from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.

The series is called, “What’s Your Story?” It is designed to begin forming connections and relationships as participants learn each other’s stories. The first story will be told by Karen Cowan, The Joseph Initiative’s Executive Director. Karen will share about how she dealt with caring for her daughter who had Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. The experience had a profound impact on her life and was major reason for the creation of The Joseph Initiative.

For parents with young children, at 5:00 pm, there will be a special story time featuring Dr Seuss’ “Horton Hears a Who” told by Board Member, Bethany Adams. The newest Board Member, Yenifer Silva-Romero will tell a story, but hers will be in el español.

According to the organization’s Executive Director, Karen Cowan, “Everyone has a story to tell, and when we share our stories that is the beginning of us becoming a healthy (mind, body and spirit) connected community. We are living in tough times and we must learn, grow, and heal together.”

The series will be held once a month, and will feature stories from various people within the Asheville community.

To attend, anyone interested should RSVP on The Joseph Initiative’s website at https://josephcommunitycenter.org/storytelling or call 828-691-5603.

The Joseph Initiative is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that partners with members of our local community and non-profit organizations to offer enrichment programs that strengthen families and unite our community.
