The Joseph Initiative and Brother Blue Studio is excited to announce the offering of a digital media program for teenagers, between the ages of 13 and 17, who live in Asheville and surrounding areas. “What’s Your Story!” will be an ongoing program that will teach about filmmaking including pre-production, interviewing, post-production and other digital media. The program will only take 8 students to start.
The initial meeting will be on March 31st for two hours at the Joseph Initiative Office and the first filming shoot will be on Saturday April 2 2016, in Asheville. Teenagers must be pre-registered for the class.
“‘What’s Your Story!’ is the first of several programs we will be offering to the young members of our community,” states Karen Cowan, Executive Director of The Joseph Initiative. Cowan adds, “This class is specifically designed to teach the art of film and filmmaking through a hands-on approach. The students will learn how to interview people and tell their stories on film. They will then have the opportunity to experience a part of the post-production editing process as they review their film. The final film will be presented by the students to their family in friends in a special premier.
This is a great opportunity to learn about film from Asheville native, Stephen Nadeau, who graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design. He majored in Film and Television Production. At age 19, he produced an award short film. He also has produced music videos. He has worked for major companies and organizations such as BOSE, Visa, NFL, Smithsonian Channel, and the Blueman Group. He has been nominated for two best narrative film awards. He has been in Boston Short Film Gala, Big Muddy Film Festival, Indie Grits Festival, Alexandria Film Festival, and Richmond International Film Festival.
